Networked television (IPTV)
When every television depends on its own aerial or set-top box, the channel list changes from room to room and there is no way to show your own information. We carry channels and in-house content over the data network, managed from a single point.
Signs you need this
- The channel list changes from one room to the next.
- Guests ask at reception for information they could have seen on the television in their room.
- Changing a channel or a notice means going from one television to the next.
With networked television, channels are received at a single point, the headend, and travel over the data network to every screen. A content-management platform, the middleware, arranges the channel list and adds your own information, such as a welcome page, services, opening hours or internal notices.
In a hotel or lodge, this puts an orderly channel list, in-house information and interactive services on the guest room screen. In an office, it takes notices and internal channels to meeting rooms and common areas without separate cabling for television.
Because the picture travels over the same network as the computers, its quality depends on the building's cabling and network equipment. That is why we assess the network and count the television points before sizing the headend and the platform.
How we deliver
Network assessment
We check whether the building's network can carry video traffic and count the television points in rooms, common areas and meeting rooms.
Channels and sizing
We agree the channel list and your own content with you, and size the headend and the middleware.
Installation
We install the headend, configure the middleware and set up each television.
Screen-by-screen testing
We confirm picture, channels and content at every point before handover.
Training
We train whoever will run the platform to change channels, publish notices and add televisions.
What you keep
- A documented channel list and content structure
- A map of the television points, room by room
- A test report for each point
- Content platform administration credentials, handed over to your organisation
- Documentation of the headend and the configuration
